Into Becoming the Top of the Game

November 20th, 2004 by Talboito

Local curmudgeon Bruce Jenkins confirms a point I made several days ago.

The almost always rule to use when reading Bruce Jenkins is to assume the opposite of whatever stand he takes. This rule becomes 100% true when Mr. Jenkins comments about technology invented past 1955.

First, let us establish Mr. Jenkins position.

Vince Carter wasn’t fooling anyone with that ridiculous stunt (banned by the league) of listening to his iPod during warm-ups. That’s not “focusing” — that’s tuning out …

Now we can reformulate using the above rule:

Vince Carter was fooling Bruce Jenkins with that ordinary behavior of listening to his iPod during warmups. That’s not “tuning out” — that’s focusing…”

Vince Carter enters an entirely artificial environment when he steps on a Basketball court. He stands center stage to thousand screaming fans, blaring music and performance pressures. Listening to his iPod returns control during warmups allows Mr. Carter control over at least some of these elements.

Ccontrol over the world allows Mr. Carter better control over himself and his basketball game.

Vince Carter isn’t tuning out; rather, he is tuning a better channel.
