Pakistan has declined our offer of money to help reform religious schools.
Catching the Bush administration by surprise, Pakistan has refused to accept financial and technical assistance offered by the US for reforming over 10,000 Islamic religious schools in the country.
This effort has been our major prong in the battle for hearts and minds of Muslims international. By taking over the burden of education from lackluster despotisms, religious leaders in places like Pakistan are free to inculcate their students with Conservative Muslim values.
We offered to provide funds for these schools on the provision that they reform their curricula to eradicate hate. Predictably. school leaders balk at accepting money from the US. This provides a convienent excuse for the Pakistani government. They can claim to have stood fast against the mighty USA while never making any serious attempt at reform.
