The title above drew my interest to this article written by a more than slightly obsessed Harry Potter fan.
I got tired of waiting for the fifth book to come out, so I decided to write my own. Last year, when I was 13, I wrote my own 826-page version of “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” in my room upstairs at my family’s 1912 Cornelius farmhouse.
The girl goes on to recount her sadly failed attempts to contact JK Rowling at the premiere of the latest movie. Admirably the girl seems to recognize the obssessive nature of her fandom, but is impervious to its embarrassment.
Her parents appear happy enablers in the process. The family plans their European vacation to coincide with the movie premiere and the girl’s mom acts as press agent for her daughter, contacting media of all form with small success.
That mother’s attempts to fulfill a daughters dream surround the part of this piece that struck me square. Its parting wisdom:
I thank my mother the most.
