It appears that Saudi Arabia is running out of sand. Yes, sand.
Arab News reports that massive construction in marshy Bahrain and the reconstruction of Iraq are pushing Suadi Arabia’s sand resources to the limit. So much is this a problem that the Saudi government has severly restricted sand exports.

Patrick Belton points out an important new book by Professor of Latin American and Latino Culture Ilan Stavans of Amherst.
Dr. Stavans is quite taken with one of my favorite quasi-languages, Spanglish. I have not read, nor have I even seen the book. Apparently it is mostly a Spanglish dictionary.

It looks like Air India is adding more flights to America.
The best part of the quote is “and San Francisco”:
The national flagship carrier has decided to double the number of flights to the USA from 4 December this year. As compared to 10 weekly flights to the USA last year, it will now offer 20 [...]

SFGate.com has an interesting article about Will Wright, founder of Maxis and creator of SimCity.
I’ve always loved the Sim Series. My bro made cities of our names for my sis, him and I way back when. Each letter was made up of a different structure, commercial, residential, industrial, fire station, etc..
He printed it out [...]

An article from Slashdot.org speaks of the new wonder plant, Tomacco.
Details are fairly sparse, but it appears that some dude grafted a Tobacco and a Tomato plant together. They have found tobacco in the leaves, but haven’t yet been able to test the fruit.
Can an escalator to nowhere be close at hand? We [...]
